In addition to the unsightly Combino trams, the Public Transport Company (GVB) will be using three classic-looking second hand trams from Vienna this summer. The first tram will be arriving today.
The GVB will need extra capacity when the metro tunnel will be closed for maintenance from 30 June until 17 August. The Viennese trams have been bought by Utrecht, but they will not be needed there until September. During the summer, the trams will be used on line 5 from Central Station to Amstelveen.
