MP Hero Brinkman (PVV) wants the activist websites Indymedia and Ravage Digitaal closed down. “Things mustn’t get any crazier”, Alex van Veen of Ravage Digitaal says.
In response to actions carried out by Nijmegen squatters, Brinkman asks the government to ban the two websites, because they would serve as a sounding board for ‘terrorist organisations’.
Van Veen: “Hero Brinkman stands an excellent chance of winning the Pol Pot Trophy in Parliament. Because some anonymous people decorated the Nijmegen inner city with pink paint, the entire squatting scene has to bleed, if it’s up to this former policeman. Things mustn’t get any crazier”.
“On the one hand, the PVV rightly takes a stand for the freedom of opinion of Mr Nekschot [a cartoonist arrested by ten policemen because he was suspected of discrimination - ed], but at the same time it asks for a prohibition of activist websites. The man makes us laugh now, but I can’t bear to think about him assuming ministerial responsibility”.
Brinkman is upset because Nijmegen squatters punctured tyres of police cars and stained a statue of a policeman after a controversial eviction.
